Condition assessment without grid context leads to expensive wrong decisions. How an integrated view directs investment to where it takes effect.
Condition alone prioritises no measure
A piece of equipment with a poor condition index is not automatically the most urgent investment target. What matters is the role it plays in the future grid: a cable that will be replaced or rerouted in the target grid anyway does not need to be refurbished today. Conversely, an inconspicuous asset can become a bottleneck as soon as the supply task shifts.
This is exactly where stranded investments arise: asset management and grid planning work with separate data holdings, separate time horizons and separate priority lists. The measure is then correctly justified in itself – just not in the context of the target grid.
An integrated view links condition and criticality data with the grid model and the planned measures. It becomes visible which investments hold up across several developments and which are better postponed, bundled or replaced entirely.
